Roof Strengthening Design

We aim to provide our clients with the best possible design and construction advice for the strengthening of roof structures, when considering the replacement of old roofing materials with modern alternatives, or perhaps the addition of a photovoltaic array (solar panels) to your roof.

Depending upon which of our service levels you require (see Building Design Services), our main service is the preparation of structural design calculations and the specification of primary structural roof members, as required by your local authority for building regulations approval. We deal directly with your local authority on all aspects of the design, through to approvals being given.

Upon instruction, our structural engineer will visit you at your property to discuss your requirements before making a full assessment of your existing roof structure for suitability under the proposed scheme. Consideration is given to build-ability and any restrictions likely to be imposed by your local authority, ensuring that building regulations approval is achieved, without unnecessary delay in the process.

In short, we offer the following services:-

  • Free estimates for our roof strengthening services, and advice on fee requirements of statutory authorities.
  • We will make a full and accurate measured survey of your roof space, noting existing construction methods and any limitations which these may have on your proposals.
  • We will advise on building regulations, and how these may impact on your proposals.
  • We will prepare structural calculations, and existing and proposed roof structure details, and submit these to your Local Building Control department for approval under current building regulations.
  • We may advise on a broad range of tiles and slates including the loading imposed by these, the maximum and minimum laps, and the maximum and minimum allowable roof pitches for these products.
  • For projects within conservation areas, we may advise on suitable roofing products, and liaise with your local planning authority on this issue, if required.
  • We may advise on suitable methods of insulating roofs - ensuring building regulations compliance.
  • We will act as agent between you and your local authority for all building regulations applications - through to approval being given for your roof strengthening project.
  • We will advise you of your obligations under the Party Wall et cetera Act 1996.
  • We will provide additional sets of drawings and structural calculation for estimates purposes, and for use during the construction phase of your project.
